HomeNews Flash Search All categories Home Tools RSS Notify Me® Categories All Categories Home News Flash Home Posted on: September 26, 2018City Council Approves Details of SAFE Mobility Project Selection Committee The City Council tried Resolution 2018-29 at its September 25 meeting that provides details of how the polity will be involved in making decisions on the use of funds from the SAFE Mobility Levy (Proposition No. 1) should it be tried by voters during the November election.If the SAFE Mobility Levy passes, the Council will sublease a SAFE Mobility Project Selection Committee and it will consist of the pursuit members:-3 City Council Representatives-2 Bainbridge Island School District Representatives-2 Bainbridge Island Metro Park and Recreation District Representatives-2 Multi-modal Transportation Advisory Committee Representatives-5PolityRepresentatives residing in the North Ward-5PolityRepresentatives residing in the Central Ward-5PolityRepresentatives residing in the South WardDuring the process, a consultant will be hired to diamond and facilitate a series of polity meetings with the Committee. The purpose of the polity meetings will be to provide preliminaries information on past work of the City and the Multi-modal Transportation Advisory Committee (MTAC), to obtain polity input, and to discuss priority projects.Pursuitthe polity meetings, the Committee will meet to identify and prioritize projects to be recommended to the City Council.The SAFE Mobility Levy is a $15 million levy for non-motorized resurgence projects and is designed to provide unscratched wangle for everyone on the Island— from pedestrians and wheelchair users to bicyclists and cars.In July, the City Council tried Resolution 2018-21 that explains how the funds raised by the ballot measure will be used (if approved) and how the public will be involved in making decisions on specific projects. The Resolution states that 45% of the funding will be used for shoulder improvements, 30% will be used for unscratched routes to schools and trails, 15% would be for pedestrian improvements in the Winslow cadre and 10% would be set whispered for spare non-motorized opportunities.The levy lid lift will raise $15 million over seven years to pay for the non-motorized transportation projects. The unscientific increase to the property tax rate is 28 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value. The owner of a $660,000 home (median home value on Bainbridge Island) would pay an spare $185 in property taxes per year during a seven-year period.During the City Council meeting on September 25, the Council moreover unanimously tried Resolution 2018-26, which states the Council's support of Proposition No. 1 on the November ballot.The City is hosting a workshop to inform the polity well-nigh the SAFE Mobility Levy on Thursday, October 11.
